East Durham College is seeking a proactive and skilled Engineering Technician to support the smooth and safe operation of our Engineering department. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic educational environment, helping shape the next generation of engineers. This role is a offered on a full time term time basis working 37 hours over 38 weeks.
Main Duties:
Health & Safety:
Ensure workshops and classrooms meet health and safety standards, conduct regular equipment checks, and support safe working practices.Technical & Teaching Support:
Prepare tools and materials for lessons, assist staff during practical sessions, and provide technical guidance to students.Procurement & Resource Management:
Manage stock levels, order equipment and consumables, and maintain workshop organisation and cleanliness.General Support:
Collaborate with staff to ensure effective lesson delivery, support departmental events, and engage in ongoing professional development.
Essential Criteria:
- Level 3 qualification in a relevant technical/engineering discipline
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
- Experience working in an engineering workshop or technical environment
- Strong knowledge of workshop machinery, tools, and equipment
- Awareness of health and safety practices in educational/workshop settings
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Full UK Driving Licence (or access to transport)
Desirable:
- Experience supporting learners in an educational setting
- Skills in procurement, stock control, and equipment maintenance
- Previous involvement in technical support for apprentices or trainees
