Job Introduction

East Durham College is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Lecturer to deliver high-quality teaching across GCSE and Functional Skills programmes (up to Level 2). This is a fantastic opportunity to support learners in developing essential language skills that will help them progress in education, employment, and life.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Delivering scheduled teaching and preparing engaging learning materials.
  • Developing and evaluating English courses and assessments.
  • Monitoring learner attendance and progress.
  • Supporting course review, moderation, and quality improvement.
  • Providing advice and guidance to students.
  • Participating in college events, team meetings, and CPD.
  • Promoting safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of teaching.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential Criteria:

  • A recognised teaching qualification.
  • GCSE-level education (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Degree in a relevant subject.
  • Experience teaching English across a range of levels.
  • Experience working with diverse learners (14–19+), including those with SEND.
  • Strong understanding of the OFSTED framework for Further Education.
  • Knowledge of Eduqas GCSE and Pearson Functional Skills specifications.
  • Ability to motivate students and guide substantial progress.
  • Proficiency with educational software and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting EDI.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and/or access to a vehicle.

 Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience arranging work experience for learners.
  • Familiarity with awarding body policies and procedures.
  • Practice that celebrates Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
