About the Role

East Durham College is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Teacher in Counselling to deliver high-quality teaching across a range of levels. This is an exciting opportunity to support learners in achieving their full potential while contributing to an ambitious and forward-thinking curriculum.

As part of the role, you will also take responsibility for course leadership, including organisation, assessment, and quality assurance activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and inclusive counselling lessons using a variety of teaching methods
  • Plan, prepare, and assess learning to meet diverse student needs
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing constructive feedback
  • Lead and manage assigned courses, including administration and quality assurance
  • Support student development, wellbeing, and progression
  • Contribute to curriculum development aligned with industry needs
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and assessment data
  • Collaborate with colleagues and support trainee teachers
  • Participate in student recruitment activities, interviews, and events
  • Build strong relationships with employers, schools, and stakeholders


What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Degree (or higher) in Counselling
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Relevant industry experience in counselling
  • Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills
  • Commitment to professional development and reflective practice

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching in further or higher education
  • Experience in course leadership and curriculum development
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes
