Job Introduction
Are you passionate about agriculture and eager to inspire the next generation of land-based professionals? East Durham College’s Houghall Campus is seeking a dedicated Teacher of Agriculture to join our specialist team and help deliver an ambitious, industry‑relevant curriculum.
About the Role
As a Teacher of Agriculture, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality teaching across a range of agricultural subjects, supporting learners aged 14–19+ as they develop essential skills for future careers in the land-based sector.
You will:
- Deliver engaging, professionally planned lessons across livestock, machinery, estate maintenance and other agricultural disciplines
- Prepare learning materials, assessments and online content
- Mark student work and complete awarding body documentation
- Contribute to course development, moderation and quality assurance
- Support students through tutorial activities, interviews, guidance and enrichment opportunities
- Arrange and monitor learner work experience placements
- Engage in professional development to maintain high teaching standards
- Promote safeguarding, equality & diversity, British Values and health & safety throughout your work
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Level 3 qualification in a relevant agricultural area
- GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English
- Significant vocational experience in the agriculture industry
- Strong communication skills and ability to motivate learners
- Experience delivering formal programmes or training
- Good organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality and professionalism
Desirable:
- Teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE/DTLLS) or willingness to work toward one
- NPTC Tractor Operations, Telehandler, and First Aid at Work +F
- Experience teaching a wide range of learners
- Knowledge of awarding body procedures
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Full UK driving licence and/or access to transport
