East Durham College is seeking a dedicated and proactive Learning Support Team Leader to play a key role in delivering high‑quality, inclusive support across our campuses.

In this vital leadership position, you will manage the day‑to‑day coordination of our Learning Support team, ensuring we provide exceptional support that empowers learners to access the curriculum, develop independence and achieve positive outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor and coordinate a team of Learning Support staff
  • Ensure effective daily deployment and respond to operational challenges (e.g. absence, cover, staffing changes)
  • Oversee learner support plans, risk assessments and documentation
  • Support transition planning for new learners
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum teams, parents/carers and external agencies
  • Support funding processes for High Needs learners
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to maintain high standards
  • Promote best practice and continuous improvement in ALS provision

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience working in an educational environment
  • Experience managing or leading a team
  • Strong knowledge of SEND, support strategies and learning needs
  • GCSE‑level education (Maths and English)
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills

Desirable:

  • L3 Leadership & Management
  • SEN‑related qualification
  • Experience with MIS/data systems
  • Knowledge of EHCP processes
