Job Introduction
About the Role
East Durham College is looking for a passionate and dedicated Job Coach to support young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to develop skills, gain confidence, and succeed in the workplace.
You will work closely with learners, employers, and colleagues to provide high-quality, tailored support that helps individuals transition from education into sustainable employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualised job coaching using structured teaching techniques
- Support learners in both college and real work environments
- Develop training plans, visual aids, and task prompts to promote independence
- Build positive relationships with employers, helping them create inclusive workplaces
- Advise on reasonable adjustments and workplace adaptations
- Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records
- Support development of work readiness skills such as punctuality and communication
- Assist with travel training and route planning
- Contribute to English, maths, and employability sessions
- Support learners with health needs, including safe medication handling (where required)
Essential Requirements
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Experience working with young people or adults with SEND
- Experience in education, training, or support settings
- Knowledge of employability skills and barriers to employment
- Ability to provide differentiated support
Desirable
- Knowledge or experience of Autism, ADHD, or other learning needs
- Experience in job coaching or supported internships
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant, Learning Support)
- Full UK driving licence / access to a vehicle
