Economics and Business Lecturer
Job Introduction
Main Duties of the Role:
East Durham Sixth Form (ED6) is expanding its SHAPE provision and is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic lecturer in Economics and Business, specialising in either subject or a related field, to join the team and help shape the future of its academic offer. The successful candidate will plan and deliver engaging A Level lessons aligned with AQA specifications, use a range of teaching strategies to support all learners, and contribute to curriculum development by updating schemes of work and teaching materials. They will be responsible for setting and marking assessments, providing constructive feedback, and preparing students for external exams and UCAS applications. Monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate records, and implementing interventions where needed are key aspects of the role. The post also involves working collaboratively with colleagues, liaising with external bodies, and contributing to quality assurance processes. In addition, the lecturer will support enrichment activities and play an active role in student recruitment and marketing events.
Essential Requirement:
The ideal candidate will hold a minimum Level 6 qualification in Economics, Business, or a related discipline, alongside GCSE or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths. A recognised teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS) is essential, or the candidate must be willing to work towards one. Applicants should demonstrate experience of teaching A Level Economics and/or Business with a proven track record of delivering consistently good or better lessons. Strong organisational and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to meet deadlines, teach across a range of abilities, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Candidates should be confident in monitoring and analysing student data to support academic progress and be committed to maintaining professional integrity in line with East Durham College’s values.
